Everything that holds moisture and got wet from the flood (drywall, insulation, cabinets, doors, furniture, etc.) needs to be removed prior to starting the dry out process. This is not the place to cut corners. Your home needs to be properly cleaned and dried before you start rebuilding.
Some homeowners chose to do this themselves. Others will hire a professional water mitigation company to do the cleaning and drying. Your flood policy allows for this and there will be an allowance in your estimate. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Areas recuperating from floods are often prime targets for less than-honest business activities. Building codes often require that work be done only by licensed contractors. Some building departments and trade associations keep lists of contractors who work in the community.
